I really wondered, “Is it going to be worth it?” And thankfully my husband and I decided “it’s totally going to be worth it. Let’s just do it.” So we committed to excellence. We were all in – so we drove to Idaho.

We stayed with a couple in Idaho and as we were talking to them the night before, they had decided that they were going to stay home because they were already going to be in 99{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8} totality at their house. And that got me thinking, “maybe we should stay too, because 99{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8} that’s almost there!”

So you put on your eclipse glasses and you see just like a little part of the moon moving in front of the sun.I thought it was really neat. And then we got to about 50{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8} and honestly, you couldn’t really even tell a difference. Then we got to 75{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}, 80{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8} and then to 90{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8} and you still couldn’t really tell a difference by 90{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}.

It was hard to tell anything was different, you could slightly tell that it wasn’t quite as bright. But you would never know unless you knew it was an eclipse, even though the moon was covering up the majority of the sun, it really was still sober. Then we got to this point of 99{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}. We were not in totality yet, but we were almost there. And I will tell you that you honestly that you would not have known that it was an eclipse unless, you knew what to look for. And you still had your glasses on at 99{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}.

You still could not see the solar eclipse without glasses or anything else because at 99{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}, the sun is still 10,000 times brighter than it. Totality. Isn’t that interesting? 10,000 times brighter than at 100{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}.

Totality

Then something amazing happened a full solar eclipse. The moon went completely in front of the sun. We experienced this magic of totality. The only way that I can really describe it is magical. We were able to see Venus in the sky, stars appeared, and – this is a really cool part that I didn’t even know to expect- birds started flying back to their nests!

That’s how much the sky was darkened in totality. The sky was darkened and completely in a full circumference around us was like an orange glow of a sunset, it was in a complete circle around us.

There was a drop in temperature by – about 10 to 20 degrees – and it happened immediately. I put on a jacket! It had been beautiful weather, the drop in temperature was immediate. When the eclipse reached totality- at 100{845c495dc00ac885fceaf0923b974883c8d3cc4438e1ad89d6a5e8fd6cb5e1f8}, we no longer needed our eclipse glasses. And we could look directly at the solar eclipse.

We were at a park in Mackey Idaho, and there were a lot of people gathered there and. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced! Especially to experience it with complete strangers. It was something that just was magical.

I was so grateful that we didn’t stay where we had stayed the night before. I’d like to use that as an analogy for something in your life.
